Glenwood
Springs well known for its Hot Springs pool sits at the end of a
Canyon stretching 12 miles east and west. A bike trail which parallels
I-70 through Glenwood Canyon offers hiking and roller blading.
Sunlight Ski area, only 12 miles from downtown Glenwood Springs
is a perfect place for family skiing. The diversified terrain proves
to be a challenge for even the best skier. Glenwood Springs was
the final resting place for John "Doc Holiday". Several
gunfights took place in what is now today's downtown area.
The train station located across from the Hotel Denver brought supplies
and tourists to town in the early 1900's. Amtrack trains continue
to bring visitors to historic Glenwood Springs. The town is about
160 miles west of Denver via I-70 and 42 miles north of Aspen at
the confluence of the Colorado and Roaring Fork Rivers. The elevation
in Glenwood Springs is 5,746 feet. The Hotel Colorado built in 1893
was host to Presidents Taft and Roosevelt. The famous "teddy
bear" was named after Teddy Roosevelt.
